The Kidney Innovation Accelerator (KidneyX) is a public-private partnership between the US Department of Health and Human Services and the American Society of Nephrology to accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases. KidneyX seeks to improve the lives of the 850 million people worldwide currently affected by kidney diseases by accelerating the development of drugs, devices, biologics and other therapies across the spectrum of kidney care including prevention, diagnostics, and treatment.
Building off the success of similar public-private accelerators, KidneyX will engage a community of researchers, innovators, and investors to bring breakthrough therapies to patients through a series of prize competitions. Together—through KidneyX—we plan to accelerate the pace of innovation in the development of disruptive approaches to kidney care and the development of new medical products, leading to solutions that will improve the lives of the millions of people worldwide affected by kidney diseases. We hope you will consider joining us in this effort.
KidneyX's inaugural prize competition, Redesign Dialysis Phase I, asks innovators to create designs of possible solutions or solution components that can replicate normal kidney functions and improve patient quality of life.
The second phase of KidneyX's inaugural prize competition, Redesign Dialysis Phase II, asks innovators to develop and demonstrate protype solutions.
Patient Innovators Prize
Recognizing that patients have innovative approaches to their own therapies, KidneyX intends to launch a patient focused prize in the near future.
