PeritoneX: Reducing the Incidence of Peritonitis in Peritoneal Dialysis
In the United States, about 50,000 people use peritoneal dialysis (PD). This represents just 7% of all people with end-stage renal disease. This is largely due to the risk of peritonitis, an infection of the peritoneum, commonly caused by touch contamination of sterile PD tube ends. Relavo aims to combat these infections by internally disinfecting potentially contaminated PD tube ends after connections have been made. Our device, the PeritoneX, interfaces directly with existing PD tubing, reduces patients' risk of infection, and lowers peritonitis treatment expenditures for dialysis providers and insurance payers.
